Today, I’m sharing my thoughts on the best primer for oily skin types.
I have tried a few primers over the years, for all over my face and for my eyelids. My skin type has gone from very oily, to combination oily; I have struggled with acne over the years, too. I’ve lived in very humid, hot climates as well as drier ones. I’m always trying a new primer out! Hopefully this post helps you decide which primer you’d like to try.
Best primer for oily skin types — Drugstore options
Wet n Wild Fergie primer: I really like this eyelid primer for a budget-friendly option. It truly rivals my more expensive primers in my collection! My eyelids get oily no matter what, so I always use a primer under my eye shadows. Read my review for this drugstore eyeshadow primer here.
Rimmel Stay Matte primer: I’ve heard great things about this primer for oily skin types and you can read many great reviews for it online. People love the way it feels on their skin and how it holds up throughout the day, under their makeup. It’s a very affordable option at the drugstore so I recommend that you check it out; there are always Rimmel coupons floating around, too 😉
Best primer for oily skin — Mid range options
Urban Decay primer potions: Over the years, Urban Decay has come out with some of my favorite primers, especially for my eye makeup. They also have nice setting sprays to spritz over your makeup, too. They are a little pricey compared to drugstore choices, but a tiny bit goes a long way and the Primer Potions are truly quality products. I feel like there’s something for everyone to try.
Tarte primers: they rarely get below 4 stars for reviews from people with all skin types. I haven’t tried these, but they are highly recommended by so many beauty enthusiasts, I cannot wait to give them a shot! Have you tried any primers by Tarte?
Smashbox: The primer I tried made my makeup last and apply smoothly on my oily skin. I had an issue with the primer beading up by the end of the day, but many people love the Smashbox primers and I’d be willing to try other versions! They have so many now like Pore Minimizing and Blemish control…have you tried any?
Benefit: It’s oil free and has a transparent look. It feels soft and light on my face and is one of my favorites! Minimal fragrance and helps my makeup last and look better. It keeps oil at bay so that it doesn’t seep through my makeup 🙂 It’s a little pricier than the other “mid range” options since you only get .75 oz, but it’s definitely worth a try and Sephora sells a mini size.
Lorac: I’ve tried their eye primer and had no issues with it. They now have a face primer, too, which is said to mattify skin and minimize pores and fine lines. It has great reviews and I look forward to trying this one, too.
Becca: Becca says its primer controls oil and minimizes the appearance of pores for 12 hours. Wow! The brand says this acts like a liquid blotting paper throughout the day and is sweat/humidity resistant. People are saying it’s so powerful, you ONLY should put it on your tzone/greasy areas. Ok, I’m definitely interested in trying it.
Best primer for oily skin — High end options
Hourglass: It’s pretty pricey, but it’s many people’s holy grail primer 🙂 The Hourglass primer pretty much is achieving beauty cult status! haha It’s oil free and includes sunscreen, so I’d love to see a flash photo test for this. I’ll have to buy it and try it! Most ladies say it mattifies and makes their skin look flawless.
Givenchy: This primer is described as a mattifying powder gel–I’m intrigued! Givenchy claims that it’s lightweight, gives skin a glowing look and keeps oil at bay. Most users seem to agree, so I can’t wait to test it out.
So there are 10 of my picks for the best primer for oily skin choices. What do you think of these primers? Thanks for reading!
