I was so scared to order the Boulder Madewell Transport Tote online.
Why, you ask?
Well, when I was looking for pics of the Madewell Transport Tote in the color Boulder, I couldn’t find a single non-store image!
The lack of blog reviews and Instagram pics on this tote color worried me.
Was no one buying the gorgeous, sand-colored leather?
Did they all know something I didn’t know?
Would I regret it if I didn’t purchase the traditional dark brown or black leather tote?
Turns out, I am loving how my Madewell Transport Tote looks, feels and wears, especially in the beautiful light boulder shade!
Boulder Madewell Transport Tote | The Details
Sadly, when I purchased my tote on Nordstrom’s website, I missed the price-match deal they had earlier. At least I had a gift card!
But the Madewell Transport Tote is still one of the most affordable, 100% leather, large capacity, high quality totes on the market.
Size: I am 5’4 (162.5 cm) tall with a petite (but “curvy”, I guess, haha) frame and this is a BIG BAG, yall.
BUT it is not overwhelming. If you are smaller than me, I dunno. You may want to go for this medium Madewell tote, instead.
It just depends on how large you like your bags =)
Disclaimer: for the past few years, I have been using a tiny little crossbody by Nine West so I think this tote size will take a little getting used to.
The thing is, I wanted something *large* to haul around my (and my son’s) stuff whenever we’re out and about.
But I didn’t want that “mom” or “diaper” bag look, ya know? haha.
Like it shows in my pictures, the Madewell Transport Tote has a slightly smaller shoulder drop size than you might expect; when I wear my winter coat, I carry this bag on my elbow instead of my shoulder.
When I carry the bag on my shoulder, it goes down to my bootay!
And when I carry it on my elbow, it goes down to my knee.
You can visit Nordstrom’s site for specific measurements and others’ reviews, if you’re curious!
My son was all up in the mix of me taking these pictures, as usual!
But the tag inside describes that there may be “imperfections” since the Transport is made of natural leather.
The color might transfer onto lighter fabrics the first few times you carry the bag, but I haven’t had that happen.
One reason I didn’t want the beautiful burgundy version this time around!
And thankfully (to me), the Boulder shade isn’t as light white as it looks online. In person, it is more of a medium sandy taupe =)
I like how the handle stitching looks; even though there’s no hardware, I still managed to hook on a little charm.
More Pics of the Boulder Madewell Transport Tote
At first, I was a little miffed that there are these marks on the bag right upon opening the package.
In reality, they aren’t even noticeable in person, I was just inspecting the bag very closely.
Some areas of the leather are smoother than others…I don’t mind.
My bag was made in China, as all of the Madewell Transports probably are.
With these pictures above, I want to show you how the leather sits when the bag is empty.
It is a soft leather that has just enough stiffness/structure for a nice shape, but it doesn’t stand up tall on it’s own.
Although the tote is a bit slouchy, I prefer this over it being boxy.
The leather smells nice, no chemical, super oily or bad smell.
There is one pocket that zips and is only attached by stitching at the top, so you can lift it up.
I plan on using a wallet and maybe a makeup bag to organize smaller items that I carry.
I think I’ll get used to this very open layout.
So, should you buy the Boulder Madewell Transport Tote for yourself?
Don’t be scared of trying a light shade of leather for your everyday bag!
So far, I’m very happy with my purchase and highly recommend you try the Madewell Transport Tote through Nordstrom and get cash back with Ebates.
Nordstrom offers always free shipping, reward points and a no hassle return if you decide it’s not for you.
I will definitely update this post in the next year to show how the bag is aging…
I imagine the leather will be buttery soft and gorgeous, dahling.
